PITCHING LESSONS Learning how to pitch correctly greatly increases a pitchers success, self confidence, leadership ability and body control. It can also keep them free from pitching related injuries, and foster their development to compete at increasingly higher levels of play. Pitchers that don't receive instruction and guidance from a highly qualified instructor have a tendency to get injured, loose interest, or simply get passed up by the competition. Nancy's philosophy is based on years of experience, ASA training, and from some of the best coaches in the industry (Mike Candrea, Nancy Evans, Sue Enquist).
Nancy maintains a balance of focus between proper allignment and speed. Without form and allignment, speed is useless. However, we all want to throw fast strikes. Once proper form is set with average or higher speed, we incorporate different pitches such as a change up, drop ball, slider, and rise-ball. Due to the increased chance of injury when throwing the rise and curve, it's reserved only for athletes 14 years old and older.
BATTING LESSONS Batting is FUN! Nancy focus's on getting girls to make solid contact, hit line drives and eventually produce multiple base hits. Nancy also teaches all forms of bunting (Sacrafice, slap, drag and push) as well as left handed slap and drag with momentum built into footwork.
Gain confidence at the plate. Know when to swing, understand your objectives! Learn to control the ball! In addition to batting tools and drills, Nancy often pitches live during batting lessons.
Batting is about form, alignment and balance. The swing should be supported by the structure of the body and by common angles. The hands drive the bat following the hips that instigate the swing. Weight is balanced. Softball batting is UNLIKE baseball batting in many ways and LIKE baseball in many ways. The key is to understand the similarities and differences.
Private Lessons Private lessons are 25 minutes or 55 min long. Please arrive early to warm up. Players are to bring normal practice gear including; glove, cleats, a bat, ball, knee pad, sweatshirt, hair tie, a bat, batting gloves, etc. Pitchers supply their own catcher, preferably a parent or an established catcher. If you can't get a catcher, I do catch on occasion, especially for the younger players. I can always try to round someone up if you can't physically catch for your child. This is usually in the case of older, more advanced athletes.
*Lessons: Please pay for lessons in advance and give 48 hours notice of cancellation.
*Call for a Lesson: If you do not take regular weekly lessons you can always call/email Nancy to see if there are any spaces available or availability on a weekend day.
Private Lessons Cost: $35 for single lessons (pitching, batting, fielding or mixed) or $300 for 10 lessons. (Bundled lesson prices are only for lessons held in GOLETA.) ** Ask about lesson specials.
Semi-Private Lessons: Semi-Privates are when two or more girls receive instruction during the session. All lessons are scheduled in advance. For pitching lessons, each girl must have her own catcher. Cost of semi-private lessons for two playerse are the same as above but split between families. Cost varies for groups.
*As athletic scholarships and competitive sports have risen dramatically, private instruction has become very common in many sports. It enables a child to learn from a top notch instructor, giving her the edge to compete at the highest levels possible, compete with confidence and with the skills to avoid injuries. Compare the cost to guitar, piano or dance instruction. Why do we do the things we do for kids? To increase their self-confidence, to give them the edge, to help them achieve in an increasingly competitive world. When kids excel at something, they also stick with it.
*Female athletes are more likely to - avoid teenage pregnancies - finish college - get an advanced degree - marry after college - succeed in business
